I often press my 1/4″ seams open. I find this lets my pieces lay flatter in the end. It can be a bit more difficult sometimes to get the seam open and flat, but the end results are much cleaner and nicer.

My wool pressing mat from Wooly Felted Wonders really makes this easy and convenient, as does this really hot little iron from Steam Fast.

Did you notice I have a little ironing station right next to my sewing machine. It sits on top of a rotary mat, so I can sit and sew, cut and iron just by rotating my chair. Lazy sewer that I am 🙂
