I just got home from IQF quilt Festival in Houston, where I taught three classes and had a booth with Laura.
Two of my classes were Free Motion Machine Quilting and after teaching that class the Tip of the DAY is…….
CHANGE YOUR NEEDLE .
SCHMETZ Needle Eye Comparison |

- The eye of most needles – including the SCHMETZ Universal – is approximately 40% the width of the blade. As the needle size increases, so does the eye.
- There are three needle types with eyes larger than 40%: Embroidery, Metallic and Topstitch.
- What does a larger eye mean? Less friction on the thread. So if your thread is repeatedly breaking or shredding, or you are using heavier weight threads, use a needle with a larger eye.
