WORKSHOP — Reinventing the Block

Level: Beginner to Advanced—Two days—

Strip - To cut or tear into strips To remove all excess detail from; reduce to essentials. To dismantle.

Strip Piecing quilt

Creating our own designs. How do we start to transform our own ideas in to pattern and design.
Many traditional quilts start with a simple block and to achieve pattern, repeat it over and over again.
To achieve a contemporary design that is unique to ourselves we can use the same idea, pick a simple
pattern but by varying it in size and shape and adding in filler units we will create something unique and
new.

To help us achieve a more fluid feel to our designs we will cut our
blocks free form without using a ruler. This will give our pieces movement and energy. We will use our ruler to square up in the end.
