Christmas in July - well not quite

My friend Roberta is a wonder. She is a wonderful friend, she is a wonderful gardener and she is a wonderful quilter. Roberta is mostly a traditional quilter, but she likes to try EVERYTHING.

Roberta has had her health issues but she keeps on keeping on. Everyday she is making or doing something.

I meet Roberta through her daughter, Melissa. I used to work in the library at the local high-school as a computer tech where Melissa and April where the Librarians. I LOVED being in the library all day and Melissa is a funny and inspiring teacher/librarian.

Last year Melissa saw my tree skirt on my blog or newsletter or webpage, anyway somewhere, and told her mother that she would love to have one like it, so last fall Roberta got the pattern and fabric from me to make it she was going to surprise Melissa with it. Boy was Melissa surprised and happy.

Roberta just now sent me this picture of the finished tree skirt. It measures 60″ round and is all raw edged fused. It is completed and quilted in four sections and then the sections are joined together with fused strips that are also quilted once they are applied.

I am so impressed with Roberta’s abilities to just jump in and try anything. Roberta has a typical sewing space with a small table for machine quilting, so doing the final quilting on the final round fused binding required a little help from her friend to hold up the edges of the finished quilt while she quilted around.

I think it turned out fabulous, you rock Roberta!!
